Rating RCB IPL 2025 auction squad: 7/10 for going heavy on bowlers, light on batters

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have somewhat succeeded in building a balanced squad in IPL 2025 auction but there are several shortcomings

After staying mum and doing the bare minimum on Day 1, Royal Challengers Bengaluru woke up from their slumber to make an attempt to build a balanced squad on Day 2 of IPL 2025 auction. Having retained only three players before the mega-auction, the trophy-less franchise was tasked with rebuilding a whole new side. The franchise drew flak for buying only 6 players on Day 1 of the auction despite having a heavy purse. However, they made up for it on Day 2 as they managed to fill the gaps that were left.

RCB hits at IPL 2025 auction

If there’s one big positive for RCB in IPL 2025 auction, then it is the middle-order batters and big hitters that they have bought. The likes of Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Krunal Pandya, Romario Shepherd and Tim David have a reputation for their destructive hitting. RCB also managed to buy Devdutt Padikkal in the round for unsold players, ending their find for a suitable number three batter.

In the bowling department, the side recruited Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Dar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi and Nuwan Thushara. The trio will add to the pace battery led by Yash Dayal. Suyash Sharma, Liam Livingstone and Krunal Pandya comprise of RCB’s spin department.

RCB misses at IPL 2025 auction

RCB have missed out on roping in reputed full-time spinners in IPL 2025 auction. The team desperately needs a spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal who has a great record in M Chinnaswamy stadium which is a bowler’s nightmare. Further, lack of Indian batters can return to haunt the side in IPL 2025.
