Taylor further reveals that one of his life-long dreams was to have his own house. He added that after achieving his dream of representing the Black Caps, his goal was to do something for his family.

‘’Once I played for New Zealand my next goal was to have a freehold house. There were downsides to having his salary public, though. When everyone knows what you’re on you’re expected to buy everything, it’s annoying. Some of it’s joking, you can understand that,” Taylor revealed during the podcast.

Ross Taylor retired earlier this year after representing the Black Caps for 16 long years. He was a part of the Indian Premier League since its inception in 2008. He participated in the cash-rich league until 2013.

The 38-year-old represented Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, and Pune Warriors India during his time in the IPL.

He was bagged for Rs 4.6 Crore by Rajasthan Royals in 2011, the highest by any Kiwi cricketer back then.

Earlier this year, Taylor also made a stunning claim as to how an owner of the Rajasthan Royals slapped him during his stint with the franchise.

Rajasthan played Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. The chase was 195, I was lbw for a duck and we didn’t get close. Afterwards, the team, support staff and management were in the bar on the top floor of the hotel. Liz Hurley was there with Warnie. One of the Royals owners said to me, ‘Ross, we didn’t pay you a million dollars to get a duck’ and slapped me across the face three or four times,” Taylor wrote.

Taylor had revealed that when franchise pay you the over the top amount, they have high expectations and expect instantaneous results.

However, Taylor also revealed the positives of playing in the IPL, other than money. He added that the cash-rich league allowed the players to gel together and make friendships for life.

It broke down the barriers or broke down the aura [of great players]. We used to watch Australia warm up and I think we were almost beaten before we played them,” Taylor added

Taylor played 55 matches in the IPL and scored 1017 runs at a strike rate of over 123. He registered three half-centuries with a top score of 81. He represented the Black Caps in 112 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 102 T20Is between 2006 and 2022.
