The much-anticipated 1st T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium turned into a frustrating experience for fans due to a combination of heavy rain and inadequate stadium facilities.
While the persistent downpour that lashed the stadium throughout the evening was uncontrollable, serious questions are being raised about the arrangements at the venue. With no roof to offer protection from the elements, a large portion of the crowd was left shivering in the cold.
Adding to the discomfort, some seating areas were reportedly constructed using cloth material, which became unusable when wet. The sub-par facilities did not go unnoticed, with Pakistani journalists taking to social media to express their disappointment.
1st T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand abandoned due to continuous rain
Unfortunately for the fans, who eagerly waited for some action, the first T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand was forced to get abandoned due to continuous rain.
Initially, the relentless downpour forced a revised format, shortening the match to a quickfire 5 overs per side. Pakistan got off to a flying start with their lethal pacer Shaheen Afridi striking early.
However, cricket fans were left wanting more as the heavens opened up once again, halting play after a mere two deliveries. Despite valiant efforts from the ground staff, the match was eventually called off.
