Rohit Sharma has escaped unscathed from a blow to his left knee during preparations for the Boxing Day Test. The Indian captain was batting in the nets in Melbourne when he got hit. At first, he continued to bat but pulled out after facing discomfort. Moments later, he was seen using an ice pack on his knee.
Considering where Team India stands in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, missing someone of Rohit’s experience would have been a huge hit to winning the Boxing Day Test. Everyone realises that he’s in a bad patch of form, but his experience and skill can’t be replicated by any player in the squad.
No injury concerns for Rohit Sharma
Luckily, the Indian captain isn’t hampered severely. Akash Deep, who, like Rohit, suffered a blow while batting in the nets, has revealed that both he and his captain are fine. “Such blows are common when you play cricket,” Akash told the press in Melbourne.
Rohit had let the top five (Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant) have a bat against the new ball in the nets and chosen to face the slightly older ball. It was then that Rohit Sharma was hit while trying to pull a ball that took an edge and hit him on his left knee.
“I think this (practice) wicket was for white ball, which is why the ball kept low at times. But these blows are common in training. There are no major concerns because of that,” Akash added.

Focus on Rohit Sharma’s batting & captaincy
The series may stand at 1-1, but undoubtedly, Australia is ahead. Despite Josh Hazlewood being injured, they were ahead in the rain-hit Brisbane Test, and if not for rain, would have probably taken a 2-1 lead. This would have meant that Rohit Sharma would have lost both matches as captain.
Having already lost a home series to New Zealand, 0-3, the pressure is on Rohit, the batter and captain. In his last five matches, Rohit has suffered defeat four times and averages a miserable 12.22. In five of his last innings, he hasn’t reached double digits, and of the remaining times he has, he’s got just one half-century.
