India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has once again come under fire, with some of his decisions on field making little sense. Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. From field placements to burning a review, quite a few decisions of the Hitman raised eyebrows.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy comes under fire again
It all started with a wasted review in the fourth over. A delivery off Siraj to Usman Khawaja was referred to the third umpire after the Indian skipper was convinced that the ball was going on to hit the stumps. Too bad for India, the review was lost as the ball tracking showed the delivery missing the wickets by a thin margin. In the third session, India lost yet another review after Akash Deep’s delivery to Steve Smith was found going down the leg side. Once again, it was Rohit who made the decision after consulting Rishabh Pant.

Clueless over Sam Konstas menace
Next, Rohit Sharma had absolutely no idea on how to deal with the Sam Konstas menace. The 19-year-old, who made his debut in the Boxing Day Test, ended up taking the Indian pacers to the cleaners with some outrageous shots. While he attempted to play a reverse scoop thrice while playing against Bumrah, Rohit only managed to get a fielder near the boundary line after the first two attempts. Clearly, placing a fielder there could have ended India’s woes with Konstas pretty early without much damage being done.
Clumsy rotation of bowlers
Further, the Indian skipper’s decision to keep Washington Sundar away from the attack for nearly over two sessions grabbed eyeballs. The off-spinner would have been a good option to deal with southpaw Usman Khawaja. Instead, Rohit decided to stick with Jadeja and the other pacers while Khawaja went on to score a half-century.
