Both Rohit and Sourav Ganguly have been aggressive captains leading his team from the front. While Rohit has been a trademark opener in recent years, Ganguly has shuffled his batting position from the top to the middle order depending on the demand of the team. Still, it is the former captain who tops the charts when compared to the Hitman.

Rohit Sharma might have better win percentage stats as captain, but in terms of pure batting Ganguly is miles ahead of the current Indian captain. When compared, Sourav Ganguly has obviously played more matches than Rohit. But in Tests, Rohit has a much lower average compared to Ganguly.

Rohit has played 24 Test matches where with an average of 30.58 he has amassed 1254 runs with 4 centuries to his name. On the other hand, in the longest format of the game, Ganguly has been much better. The former India captain has an average of 37.66 with 5 centuries and 2561 runs to his name. The latter has also hit more boundaries, but it is obvious given he has played more matches.

When things comes to the ODIs, Rohit Sharma in fact a very good average. He has captained India in 48 games with a very good average of 55.1. The Hitman has also scored 2204 runs in the meantime notching up 4 tons and slamming a whopping 113 sixes. Ganguly on the other hand has been a veteran in ODIs. He has registered 5104 runs with 11 centuries and a good average of 38.66.

All things seen and done, the stats definitively conclude that Sourav Ganguly has in fact been a better captain for India compared to Rohit Sharma as far as batting records are concerned.
