India’s captain Rohit Sharma and the squad sweat it out in Chennai to continue their preparations for the upcoming IND vs BAN Test series. All 16 squad members actively took part in the intense practice session at Chepauk on Monday.
Following a day off, the Indian team engaged in their third training session since arriving in Chennai last week. The first Test is set to begin on Thursday. Rohit Sharma was seen toiling on the pitch against spinners. Rohit concentrated on tackling spin, mindful of Bangladesh’s slow bowling attack. Along with Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan took centre stage.
Sarfaraz had recently joined the squad after playing in the second round of the Duleep Trophy in Anantapur.
Kohli and Jaiswal face Bumrah and Ashwin
As usual, Virat Kohli was among the first players to enter the nets, accompanied by southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both of them took on the challenge of facing speedster Jasprit Bumrah and local star R Ashwin in the nets.
Jadeja, Pant, and Siraj work with local bowlers
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, and pacer Mohammed Siraj also faced local bowlers and received significant throwdowns to fine-tune their skills.
On the batting front, Rishabh Pant is expected to make his return to Test cricket after almost two years. Dhruv Jurel, who impressed during his debut series against England, is likely to be benched to accommodate Pant.
India’s strategy for the first test
India has two more practice sessions scheduled before the series opener. With Bangladesh coming in with confidence after a series sweep in Pakistan, India is likely to field a strong side.
The Chennai pitch typically favours spinners, and India may opt for a combination of three spinners and two pacers. Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to take charge of the spin department, while Bumrah and Siraj will handle the pace attack. Despite his consistent all-round performances, Axar Patel may have to sit out.
