India skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on batting maestro Virat Kohli‘s intent and attitude amid the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. The Hitman advised the team’s youngsters to be hungry in order to excel in both white-ball and the red-ball formats of the games.
Rohit Sharma wants youngsters to take a feather out of Virat Kohli’s book
Speaking to former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik on Jio Cinema, Sharma said that he was fortunate to watch Virat Kohli play from a close angle and heaped praise on his ‘hunger’ to out and excel. The Indian skipper pointed out that Kohli was always available to play for the team and noted that it was the most important thing.
“Of late, I have been lucky to watch Virat (Kohli) so closely. We keep talking about him as a batsman but people don’t see what he does outside the field. He is passionate towards the game, and always hungry to come and play firstly. Be available to play for the team. That’s the most important thing, unless there are personal reasons,” Sharma said on being asked what advise will he give for India’s youngsters.
Sharma also advocated for the need to chase numbers while players go out to play and asked them to enjoy the atmosphere, camaraderie instead. He asserted that numbers are overrated and that people in India looked at numbers more.
He argued that India had gone on to lose the ODI World Cup in 2019 despite hitting five centuries. Sharma added that the numbers did not matter if the team was unable to win the trophy.
