The top stars of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are getting a much needed 2 week before. Following this they will report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the Asia Cup 2023 camp on 23rd August. The NCA is hosting a week-long camp from the 24th to the 29th of August.
The current India team skipper and the former skipper are not a part of the India T20 Squad that is currently touring West Indies. On the contrary, they are enjoying a much-needed vacation before a hectic schedule. The senior players will take part in the Asia Cup before beginning their preparation for the ICC World Cup 2023.
“Rohit and Virat will report to the NCA on August 23,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
The formidable duo is not a part of the T20 squad as the BCCI has opted for a young team to be led by Hardik Pandya for the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup. While the focus now remains on the Asia Cup, the duo along with the team for the Asia Cup will join the camp at NCA in Bengaluru to hone their fitness ahead of the big tournament.
Rohit and Kohli will travel to Sri Lanka to play the Asia Cup and are set to begin their campaign on 2nd September against arch-rivals Pakistan. Among other players, both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will join the Asia Cup 2023 camp but the inclusion of Sanju Samson is highly unlikely. If Samson gets a chance in the team he will join the last 2 days of the camp.
Sanju Samson likely to miss Asia Cup 2023 camp at NCA from Aug 24
Jasrit Bumrah who will lead a second string of Indian contingent to Ireland for a 3-match series will get a 2-day break after the series and then report back to the NCA camp to build on his match fitness ahead of the big tournament.
