Rohit Sharma to not travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy opening ceremony, says BCCI source

The Champions Trophy is slated to begin on Feb 19, and India will play Pakistan in Dubai on Feb 23.

While it had become clear long back, that the Indian team won’t go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, there were a few reports that Rohit Sharma might travel to the nation for opening ceremony. The PCB is planning to host the ceremony on Feb 16 and 17 and all the captains are expected to be in Pakistan for the same.

No Rohit Sharma for Champions Trophy Opening Ceremony?

“Indian Team captain will visit Pakistan to attend the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy as PCB plans grand event, marking the return of a mega international cricket event to Pakistan after 29 years,” sources told IANS. But now, a fresh report in ANI has suggested that, a BCCI source has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not travel to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, an official word on the same has not come out from the BCCI. As far as the tournament is concerned, Team India is slated to play all their matches in Dubai, and in case, the team makes it to the knockouts, they will continue to play in the UAE. Currently, the biggest topic of debate is — how will Team India squad look like, for the tournament.

India Squad for CT 2025 Soon

The squad was to be announced on Jan 12, but now it will be announced on Jan 18 and 19 by the BCCI. One of the biggest names in the team, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the group stage matches due to a back injury he sustained during the IND vs AUS Test series. While Mohammed Shami will most likely play in the tournament, after being sidelined from international cricket due to injury.

There is no clarity as to what spinners will be picked in the team and a close battle is expected between Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. As for other pacers in the squad for the Champions Trophy, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj look like certain picks.
