The ICC T20 World Cup is months away, but the permutations and combinations regarding the India Cricket Team are in full swing. Former India cricket Aakash Chopra has claimed that Rohit Sharma isn’t done with T20Is and should be the captain of the Men in Blue. Adding more to his inputs, Chopra further added that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be the ideal opening partner with Rohit Sharma.
“Rohit isn’t done with T20Is, he will lead India in T20 WC. Jaiswal front runner to be his opening partner,” said Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“Rohit Sharma hasn’t said that he is done with T20 cricket. Rahu Dravid’s contributions and India’s performance in the ODI World Cup barring the Finals is a proof that Rohit will be leading the side. With him you need a left handed opener. Yashasvi Jaiswal hence leads the race but you never know anything for certain in Indian Cricket,” added Chopra.
Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill
It is a known fact that Shubman Gill is currently one of the biggest stars in Indian Cricket Team. The youngster had a decent ODI World Cup and will be keen to showcase his worth in the T20 World Cup. However, if Yashasvi Jaiswal gets selected in the pecking order ahead of Gill it can prompt a mega chain reaction in the Indian batting order.
Shubman Gill is a well established top order batter but is more adept in playing as an opener. Should Rohit and Yashasvi open proceedings for India, the Gill has to slot at Number 3.This in turn can be a big issue as it is the designated battin spot for Virat Kohli in white ball cricket. With the World Cup 6 months away, it remains to be seen what the BCCI Selection Commitee thinks.
