Rohit Sharma & Co have arrived in Ahmedabad for the biggest ODI World Cup 2023 match. In Gujarat’s megacity on Saturday, Cricket World Cup will brace for the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash.
Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, SuryaKumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan were also spotted at airport. It is to be noted that Shubman Gill has already landed in Ahmedabad, last night (October 11). The rest of the team will join the star opener in Ahmedabad today.
The 24-year-old Gill is recovering from dengue and is on the fast track to recovery.
On October 10, when his platelets fell below 1,00,000 per microliter, Shubman Gill was taken to a hospital in Chennai, but he was immediately released and continued receiving care there. Shubman Gill’s hospitalization was also verified by India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour on October 10 during the pre-game press conference in Delhi.
It is highly unlikely that Gill will be match-fit for India vs Pakistan World Cup clash. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will continue to open with Rohit Sharma for India.
India vs Pakistan in World Cup
The Pakistan Cricket Team led by Babar Azam also landed in Ahmedabad yesterday. The Men in Green looked all geared up for their battle against Indians. They will have their first optional practice session today at Narendra Modi Stadium.
India and Pakistan have a protracted rivalry in cricket, having clashed seven times in ODI WC.
In all seven instances, India has won, continuing a streak that includes victories in T20 World Cups. This streak was halted in 2021, but India returned in 2022 with a shocking victory, reaffirming their domination over their bitter enemies.
Talking about India’s last match, Men in Blue cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. With this, India has joined New Zealand and Pakistan at the top of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 standings. Rohit Sharma’s record knock played a significant role in India’s victory.
With his seventh hundred of the tournament, Rohit surpassed fellow countryman Sachin Tendulkar’s score of six and matched David Warner as the player to reach 1000 runs by innings batted (19) in the tournament the fastest.
In just 84 balls while opening the batting, the captain smashed 131 runs.
