Rohit Sharma isn’t ready for Test retirement just yet. After the personal and team’s overall failure in Melbourne, the Indian captain was asked about his future. Rohit didn’t give a straight answer but made it clear that the 4th Test at the MCG wasn’t his last. The opener has been in woeful form since October and averages just 10.93 in his last 15 innings. Despite being in the worst phase of his cricketing career, age catching up to him and people after his head amid his poor run as a batter and captain, Rohit Sharma isn’t ready to hang up his boots in Test cricket just yet.
Rohit Sharma to retire? Not yet
Asked about his retirement, Rohit Sharma gave a vague answer but described how he feels as captain and batter right now. He labelled the defeat in the Boxing Day Test as extremely taxing mentally and added that they’ll need to make a few changes before the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Sydney.
“I stand where I am standing today (when asked about retirement). There is nothing to think about what has happened in the past; few results didn’t go our way as a captain and batter; it is disappointing. A lot of things I’m trying to do aren’t falling into place. Mentally, it is disturbing without a doubt. If you have come here and you want to do successfully what you are supposed to do and things don’t fall in place, that is a big disappointment. But as of now, that is where it is; there are things we as a team and I personally need to look at as well,” the Indian captain told reporters in Melbourne.
