Rohit Sharma saves his best for last! Leads the way in Champions Trophy Final with glorious fifty

Rohit Sharma had scored just 104 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy before the final and hadn't even hit a half-century.

Rohit Sharma was underperforming by his standards in the ICC Champions Trophy. It turns out he was saving his best for the very last moment. One step away from the trophy, the India cricket team captain knew that his team needed him the most in the India vs. New Zealand Final in Dubai. And so, he scored his maiden half-century of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma hits smashing fifty in Champions Trophy Final

Chasing a 252-run target, Rohit Sharma gave Team India the best possible start. He pulled Kyle Jamieson for a maximum in the very first over and set the template. He really didn’t slow down from there. One of the highlights of his play for the last couple of years has been disturbing the line and length of the pacers.

The Indian captain did that in the ICC Champions Trophy Final as well. With William O’Rourke and Jamieson struggling, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had to give the ball to Nathan Smith in the sixth over. Knowing he couldn’t let him settle, Rohit Sharma came down the ground and smashed the ball into the crowd.

BlackCaps didn’t really cover from there. Santner slowed the run flow, but until the 12th over, no wicket had fallen. Rohit had done his job by then. Shubman Gill took his time because of his partner’s quickfire innings. The only hope now would be that Rohit continues and takes India home.
