Rohit Sharma resumes 2nd innings with quick-fire fifty, breaking all-time sixes record in IND vs SL 1st ODI

When Rohit Sharma got out, Team India needed 151 more runs with eight wickets in hand.

Rohit Sharma. You beauty. The leader showcased that he is going to bat in an aggressive fashion, smashing 58 in just 47 to help India gain an upper hand in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma show!

The ‘Hitman’ word is quite apt for Rohit, who bludgeoned the Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground. Right from the first overs, the template was set. He hammered a six on the very second ball he faced and guided a four in the same over. Once Rohit was saved by a close LBW shout, he never looked back. While Shubman Gill kept his wicket intact, Rohit dominated and always kept the Lankan bowlers under pressure.

If they pitched up, he played lofted drives and they just couldn’t afford to bang in short because the Indian skipper is one of the best pullers of the game. Rohit hit his 56th ODI fifty in style with a six, getting there in just 33 balls. While India lost a cluster of wickets after a solid opening partnership of 75 runs, Rohit’s fifty was extremely crucial given the tricky nature of Colombo pitch.

Rohit & and six-hitting spree

The 37-year-old hit as many as three sixes en route to his 58-run innings against Sri Lanka. In doing so, he joined Eoin Morgan in an all-time record. In fact, Rohit has now become the captain with most sixes in international cricket alongside the former English skipper.
