Rohit Sharma Press-Conference: IND vs PAK LIVE: It is time for the biggest clash of T20 World Cup. India and Pakistan will clash at a sold-out MCG Stadium on Sunday. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, India captain Rohit Sharma will address the media at 9 AM. Shortly after the press conference, India will begin their practice. While the team combination is all but set, Rohit and Rahul Dravid will have to take a call on the second spinner’s spot, the wicketkeeper position and an update on Mohammad Shami. Big Questions for Rohit Sharma:

  • What will be the team combination for Pakistan clash?
  • Is there a place for Rishabh Pant?
  • Who will be India’s second spinner?
  • Is Mohammad Shami fully fit to play?

India only had an optional practice session on Friday at the MCG. Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and a handful of players hit the nets. The others decided to take a day off.

Shami or Harshal?

With no Mohammad Shami at the nets, India will have only Saturday nets session to determine whether he is fully fit to play. Since returning from Covid-19, Shami has bowled only 1 over. He was at his best against Australia in the warm-up even though he bowled only an over. He bagged three wickets for just 4 runs, defending 11 runs in the last over. But he is yet to bowl the entire 4-overs quota.

Considering that, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will need to take a call on his inclusion against Pakistan. It seemed, the team management is reluctant to throw him into the deep ends having just recovered.

Harshal Patel on the other hand has struggled since his return from injury. While he did well in the last two games, it will come down to Shami vs Harshal. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh will be the other two pacers.

Pant or DK or both?

Dinesh Karthik is expected to don the big gloves against Pakistan. However, there could be a place for Rishabh Pant if Rohit Sharma decides to go with just 5 bowlers. InsideSport understands from team sources that Dinesh Karthik is the preferred option. However, if the team management decides to go with 5 bowlers, Rishabh Pant will be the once to get the nod.

Ravichandran Ashwin or Yuzvendra Chahal?

  • Yuzvendra Chahal rose from the ashes after a brilliant performance in the IPL 2022.
  • Chahal improved his abilities after being left off of India’s T20 World Cup 2021 roster.
  • The 32-year-old won the IPL 2022 purple cap with 27 wickets in 17 games.
  • Chahal has taken 22 wickets in 19 innings since the 2021 T20 World Cup with an average of 22.77.
  • Additionally, he has kept his economy at a solid 7.53.
  • Due to his dismal performance in the previous two series, questions have started to raise about his place.
  • He only took 4 wickets in as many games during the Asia Cup, with a 7.93 surrendering average.
  • He was expensive against Australia, leaking at 9.12 for just two wickets in three games.
  • For the T20 World Cup 2021, Ravichandran Ashwin was called back up to the Indian T20 team. But it didn’t go as planned.
  • Although he played well in the New Zealand series, he was then cut from the T20 team.
  • The seasoned off-spinner performed admirably in the IPL 2022. He took 12 wickets for 7.51 economy in 17 games.
  • He then unexpectedly reclaimed the spot for Asia Cup 2022.
  • It was once again a mediocre effort by his standards with two wickets in two games at 7.37 in the continental tournament.
  • Since then, he has only taken one wicket in three games, with an economy rate of 6.66.
  • It’s his restrictive bowling that has troubled batters and helped other bowlers go for wickets.
