The India cricket team‘s tour of Australia has officially come to an end. With the Sydney Test ending in under 14 sessions (two and a half days), most of Team India’s squad will leave as early as possible. Originally, the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was to end on January 7, but since it ended prematurely, by the end of today (January 6), many players will board their flights home from Sydney.
Team India on their way home
It is believed that some of the senior members have either already left or will leave later today. It’s safe to assume that those who won’t leave today will depart for India tomorrow. “The logistics manager is working it out for the team, and as and when the tickets are available, the departures will begin,” a source told the Times of India.
Rohit Sharma leaves Sydney for India
RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan made a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that the captain of Team India, Rohit Sharma, has already left and that most of the players will leave today itself. Amid all the talks of his retirement and potentially being dropped from the Test team, the Indian captain would appreciate some time at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Virat Kohli off to London?
The players won’t be leaving together since their destinations are different. Virat Kohli, who has allegedly changed his home base from Mumbai to London following the birth of his second child, would leave for England, perhaps. Kohli was the first member of Team India to reach Down Under, having been in Australia since November 10.
Now that the India vs Australia Test series has ended, it’ll be fascinating to see if he features for Delhi after 12 long years of participating in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season amid his poor form.
Injured Jasprit Bumrah to come home?
The current Indian Test captain, Jasprit Bumrah, had injured himself in Sydney. For now, it’s unsure how grave his injury is. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical panel had stated that Bumrah had a back spasm. If that’s true, the pacer should need a couple of weeks to recover and should be headed home. But, if the injury is more serious, he might go abroad for further assessment.
