Former India batting coach Vikram Rathour lavished praise on captain Rohit Sharma and called him a shrewd tactician. Speaking on a podcast, Rathour claimed that the Hitman might forget a lot of things in general but will never forget a gameplan. Calling Rohit a ‘player’s captain’, Rathour noted that the skipper was always readily available to assist his teammates.
‘Rohit Sharma is a shrewd tactician’
The ex-India coach’s comment comes in the backdrop of Rohit Sharma’s habit of forgetting things easily. It includes forgetting about his bag, passport, the decision at the toss, the team’s composition and so on.
“He might forget whether he has decided to bat or bowl at the toss, or his phone and iPad in the team bus but he never forgets his gameplan. He is very good at it and is a very shrewd tactician,” Rathour said.
Vikram Rathour further heaped praise on Rohit Sharma, calling him a player’s captain who was invested in team meetings and strategies.
“He is a player’s captain. He is invested with the players. I have never seen a captain, who is so invested in team meetings and strategies,” Rathour added.
Rathour noted that Rohit Sharma’s decisions in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa were spot on. He credited the Hitman for putting pressure on the opposition despite finishing Jasprit Bumrah’s quota before the 20th over.
“His tactical decisions on the field are spot on. Sitting outside, it surprises you as a coach as well. We from outside sometimes think what he is doing but then you realise what he has done after a while,” Rathour concluded.
