The lack of an extra pacer who could take the workload of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj hurt the India cricket team, and in the end, Australia clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, 3-1. But the batting didn’t help. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, no Indian batter really inspired hope in the hearts. The lack of runs from the senior-most batter and the captain of the team, Rohit Sharma, also hurt Team India.
Gambhir lauds Rohit Sharma
Realizing with him in the side the probability of losing was higher than winning, the Indian captain ‘stood down’ and let Jasprit Bumrah take the reins of the team he’s led since 2022. The move didn’t turn out as well as Rohit would have hoped, but head coach Gautam Gambhir feels it must be applauded.
However, before backing the captain of his team, Gambhir hit at those running false narratives wrapped up as news. “There could have been more sensibility when the reports were written,” Gambhir told reporters in Sydney.
The former Indian opener then heaped praise on Rohit Sharma. “When a captain or leader takes such a call, I don’t think it’s bad. I think everyone has to keep the team first, and Rohit did that. Accountability starts from the top and Rohit Sharma took the first step,” Gambhir added.
