Rohit Sharma keeps ODI World Cup hopes alive for Ravichandran Ashwin

India believes that when the World Cup conditions start to slow down, the control Ashwin provides would be necessary.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, stated that he has spoken with a few individuals about filling the position of a spin-bowling all-rounder in the team for the ODI World Cup 2023. Sharma made a crucial observation when he said that Ravichandran Ashwin was still a contender.

According to reports, the team management is still considering including an off-spinner in the lineup for the Australia one-day matches and the World Cup, but they have not decided between Washington Sundar or Ravichandran Ashwin.

India believes that when the World Cup conditions start to slow down, the control Ashwin provides would be necessary.

Rohit Sharma made his remarks after India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win the Asia Cup trophy on September 17 in a lopsided final played in Colombo.

“As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in the line, I have been talking to him on the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute and Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop,” Rohit said.

Ravichandran Ashwin back again

India had sent Washington Sundar, who entered the XI on Sunday, in Axar’s place. Washington was given a spot in the starting lineup as soon as he arrived, demonstrating how highly India values all-around talent.

Washington Sundar is a member of the Indian team that will compete at the Asian Games. With Axar out of the picture for the series against Australia, it will be intriguing to watch who the selectors choose. Can Ravichandran Ashwin get back in the team? This is the biggest question, Team India is facing right now ahead of IND vs AUS 1st ODI clash.

Insidesport

There is a good probability that India would rest some of its top players, including Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, for the three one-day internationals against Australia.
