Rohit also became the oldest Indian skipper to score a century on his way to his 11th Test century.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has joined an elite list of players after rescuing his side in the India vs England 3rd Test. The opener scored a marvelous century off 157 balls to save his side from a horrible collapse. With India at 33/3, Rohit stepped up in the absence of other senior and experienced batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

As he scored his 11th Test century, he joined the elite list of Indian batters to score the most hundreds as an opener in India vs England Test matches. He joined two legends and Mumbaikars, Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant, and friends Murali Vijay and KL Rahul, after scoring his third Test ton against England.

With a chance to play five more innings in the ongoing India vs England Test series, Rohit Sharma has a chance to not only leapfrog KL and Vijay but also go past legends Gavaskar and Merchant and make the record his very own.

The Indian skipper had done something similar when England toured India last time in 2021. Back then, he scored a match-winning 161 in Chennai on a tricky spinning deck.
