Team India skipper Rohit Sharma scripted his name in the record books as he reached the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs. He completed the land-mark during India’s Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka on September 12 (Tuesday). The right-handed batter smashed a massive six against pacer Kasun Rajitha to etch his name in the history books.
The current Indian skipper became the sixth Indian and 15th overall to reach the landmark after completing 22 runs against Lanka at the R Premadasa stadium. As mentioned above, Rohit got to the landmark in style, hitting a straight six down the ground off Kasun Rajitha in the 7th over. The Hitman is also the second fastest batter after Virat Kohli to enter the 10K club. Kohli did it in 205 innings while Rohit has achieved the feat in 241 innings.
Meanwhile, the fans on social media heaped praises for the Indian skipper. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also congratulated Rohit for his achievement. “A milestone that defines excellence! Congratulations to our very own Hitman, @ImRo45 on reaching 10,000 ODI runs! Your achievements speak volumes. Keep making us proud with your stellar performances! wrote Shah on X handle.
Meanwhile, India won the toss against Sri Lanka and opted to have a bat first in Colombo. Leading from the front, the right-handed batter completed his fifty in just 44 balls. Before this game, the Hitman also completed a fine half-century against the arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue.
