Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has lauded India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, for building a remarkable legacy comparable to legendary leaders MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev. Rohit recently guided India to their second consecutive ICC title by winning the Champions Trophy 2025. Leading by example, Rohit delivered a match-winning performance with an innings of 76 runs from 83 balls, earning him the Player of the Match award. This victory makes him only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to secure multiple ICC trophies.
They marked a change: Karthik on Rohit and Dhoni
Dinesh Karthik highlighted Rohit’s exceptional captaincy and its lasting impact, drawing parallels with Dhoni and Kapil Dev. He said, “Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest, no doubt. He’s leaving a serious legacy. Each of them (MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev) marked a generational change and a mindset shift.”
Additionally, Karthik addressed the ongoing retirement rumors surrounding Rohit, emphasizing the clarity and humor with which the skipper dismissed them. He remarked, “It pretty much sums up Rohit Sharma as a person. Very humorous about it but at the same time sending the message across: ‘Don’t be in a hurry to ask for my retirement. I’ll do it when I feel like it.'”
Although Rohit struggled earlier in the tournament, managing only 104 runs across four innings at an average of 26, he rose to the occasion in the final. His outstanding knock of 76 included seven fours and three sixes, sealing a memorable victory for India.
