Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene has provided an update on the status of Rohit Sharma’s injury after the tie against LSG. The Hitman missed last night’s match after being hit on his knee during practice in the nets. Hardik Pandya and co. suffered a 12-run defeat at the hands of LSG at the Ekana in Lucknow.
When will Rohit Sharma return to action for MI?
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the MI coach revealed that Rohit had attempted a fitness test on the day of the match. He said that the Hitman was not feeling comfortable to bat. He added that Rohit sat out of the contest as he felt that he was not his 100%.
“Rohit got a hit on his knee just in the IT band and he tried to bat yesterday, couldn’t put any weight on it so again he came and did a fitness test early today to try and it was discomfort for him to bat, put weight on that so he felt that it wasn’t 100% for him to play this game so that’s why we precautioned,” he said.
Providing an update on when Rohit was expected to return, Jayawardene said that the former MI captain would need some more days to recover.
“We thought give him a few more days to try and get through that unfortunate what happened in the nets,” he added.
Rohit, who has MI’s backing despite his poor form, will sat out in Lucknow. He was used as an Impact Player option in the first three games, with the MI legend only coming out to bat and not used in the field.
“Rohit got hit on the knee and missed out,” Hardik Pandya said at the toss.
