Rohit Sharma braved injury and put on a show at Dhaka in a simply brilliant knock on Wednesday. Coming into bat with a strapped glove due to injury, the 35-year-old fought over pain in an innings for the ages. The Hit-Man took the game deep with some sublime batting, scoring a 27-ball fifty.

India were consigned to defeat when Rohit Sharma walked into bat with an injured Deepak Chahar at the other end. The Indian captain initially struggled and took his time. However, once set, Sharma took apart Bangladesh with some stunning drives and pull shots. India needed 40 off the final 12 balls and Rohit smashed 20 off Mahmudullah.

In the final over, the equation was reduced to 12 off 2 when Rohit smashed Mustafizru Rahman for a straight six. In the process, he became the first Indian batter to hit 500 sixes in international cricket. Needing six off the last ball, the left-arm pacer delivered a yorker, much to the chagrin of the Indian captain.

Rohit Sharma’s innings received plaudits from all around the globe given the severity of his injury. The Indian captain revealed that he had dislocated his thumb and had a few stitches before walking out to bat. Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit’s longtime statement and India star, tipped his hat off to the Indian skipper’s commitment.

Rohit will now fly back to Mumbai, head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed. The Indian captain is ruled out of the 3rd ODI and is a doubt for the Test series. KL Rahul, India’s vice-captain, will lead the team in his absence.

“We are struggling with a few injuries as well. Not ideal. Kudeep, Deepak and Rohit will certainly miss the next game. Rohit will miss the next game, fly back to Bombay, consulting with an expert. Whether he will return for the Test series or not, I am not sure. It’s too early to say,” Dravid said.
