Indian captain Rohit Sharma may have taken a break from the ongoing Ireland tour, but that does not mean he’s laying it easy on himself before busy and important fixtures start.
Hit-Man was on Saturday seen warming up in Mumbai in a bid to stay in shape as Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023 nears.
The Mumbaikar posted pictures of himself on social media doing some running. Rohit looked comfortable and in his zone in Adidas shorts, jogging shoes and a casual Tee.
Rohit Sharma, who last played an international match a month ago against West Indies, is set to join the rest of the team in preparation for the Asia Cup at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on August 23.
The NCA is hosting a week-long camp from the 24th to the 29th of August. The players who will take part in the Asia Cup will undergo fitness drills and campaigns to prepare themselves to the fullest for the upcoming tournament.
The Indian captain, along with Virat Kohli, was given a break by the BCCI before the Asia Cup to rejuvenate. Owing to the hectic schedule, the duo were not part of Ireland series where BCCI sent a second-string team.
The duo were not part of the T20I squad that toured West Indies and Ireland.
Rohit and Kohli have not played a T20I this year as the selectors have opted to rest them and give opportunities to youngsters on the road to the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit, who led India in 2022 T20 World Cup, has been replaced by Hardik Pandya as the captain of the T20I side.
The Asia Cup team selection meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 21 in what is expected to be a final dress rehearsal for the ODI World Cup 2023.
The Asia Cup 2023 will start on August 30 in Multan, and on September 2 India will play Pakistan in their opening game. At this point (on August 21), it is expected that the BCCI selectors will only choose the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Later, the World Cup 2023 team would be selected.
