Rohit Sharma heaps praises on KL Rahul for his transformation as a batter-keeper

Rohit made it clear that the Indian team management is satisfied with the job KL Rahul is doing behind the stumps

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Monday expressed his opinion on Indian cricketer KL Rahul’s transformation from a pure opener to a middle order batter-wicketkeeper’s role. Addressing a press conference ahead of the IND vs SA 1st Test, Rohit heaped praises on KL Rahul. Rohit opined that KL Rahul’s transformation was very pleasing to watch.

India will take on South Africa in the IND vs SA 1st Test at Centurion Park on December 26. After having been rested for the white ball series against the Proteas, skipper Rohit Sharma returned to the Indian team for the IND vs SA Test series. Monday’s press conference was the first time Rohit addressed the media after the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Rohit was asked questions on various issues, ranging from the playing conditions in South Africa to the role of spinners in the IND vs SA Test series. One question revolved around KL Rahul’s change of roles. In answer, Rohit made it clear that the Indian team management is satisfied with the job KL Rahul is doing behind the stumps.

KL has really been working hard: Rohit Sharma

“Every cricketer has to go through some kind of transformation or a different sort of role in their career. There are a very few players who have just stuck to one position to play throughout their career on that position,” Rohit said.

“The way KL Rahul kept in the World Cup, it was quite pleasing. He has really been working hard. He is quite keen to take up that role as well. It gives us an option to play a solid batter in no. 5,6,7 or whatever that position may be. He has the experience of playing in these conditions. He came here, got a hundred last time. Although he opened the innings there, this time he’ll be in the middle order. He does most of the things right.

“He bats really well, understands the game really well, and obviously an experienced player. KL Rahul exactly knows what is required at different stages of the game. It gives us a solid balance with an experienced player in the middle. I’m not sure how long he wants to keep, but as of now he is quite keen to take up that role,” Rohit added.
