India skipper Rohit Sharma spilled the beans on his last-ditch efforts to convince Rahul Dravid to carry on as the team’s head coach. Addressing a press conference ahead of IND vs IRE clash, the Hitman got a little emotional as he was asked about ‘The Wall’ and his future as his stint as the side’s coach comes to an end at the conclusion of T20 World Cup 2024.
Terming Dravid as a big role model, Rohit Sharma stated that he enjoyed every bit working under the veteran. Sharma then stopped short of finishing his reply after becoming emotional for a moment.
Rohit Sharma’s last-ditch effort to convince coach Rahul Dravid
“I tried convincing Dravid to stay. But, personally, enjoyed my time with him. I am not going to say anything,” Rohit Sharma said.
“We have not thought about it. My equation with him goes a long way back. I played under him. Such a big role model for all of us. We know what he achieved. He has shown a lot of determination in his career. I have enjoyed every bit of it,” Rohit Sharma added.

Earlier on Monday, Dravid confirmed that the T20 World Cup would be his last assignment as the coach for India. It is now certain that the veteran has not re-applied for the position of head coach.
The frontrunner for the job seems to be Gautam Gambhir, who recently guided the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to victory in IPL 2024 as their mentor. Gambhir himself hinted at his interest in the role during a recent media event, saying he would “love” to coach the Indian team. “There’s no bigger honor,” he stated.
