India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is likely to lead the side in the five-match Test series against England in June. There were speculations on the Hitman being replaced as the Test captain following series losses to New Zealand and Australia. However, with India winning the Champions Trophy, Sharma is all set to lead India once again in a major tour.
Rohit to captain India in England tour?
As per The Indian Express, Rohit has reportedly got the backing of the BCCI and the selection committee to lead India in the series against England. A source told the publication that every stakeholder felt that he was the right candidate to captain the side for the upcoming series.
“He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England. Rohit too has expressed his eagerness to keep playing red-ball cricket,” said a source.

The chatter around Rohit’s future as Test captain gained momentum after he “dropped himself” from the playing XI for IND vs AUS 5th Test. Reports had also claimed that the selectors were on the hunt for his successor. However, leading India to the Champions Trophy title might have done the trick for Sharma.
Earlier in January, the Hitman had categorically stated that he had no plans of retiring from Test cricket. At that point, he explained that his move to drop himself from the team was because he was unable to get runs. Following the CT 2025 win, once again Rohit reiterated that he had no intention to retire from ODIs either.
“There is no guarantee that runs won’t come five or two months down the line. I have seen a lot of cricket. Life changes every second, every minute, every day. I have confidence in myself that things can change, but at the same time I have to be realistic as well,” he had told Star Sports.
