Rohit Sharma escapes Ahmedabad deja vu, Labuschagne & Connolly give lifelines in Dubai semifinal

Rohit Sharma escapes Ahmedabad deja vu, Labuschagne & Connolly give lifelines in Dubai semifinal

For those you have forgotten, intentionally or not, Travis Head took an excellent running back catch in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final to send Rohit Sharma back to the pavillion.

We were fingertips away from that Travis Head catch in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final being recreated. Marnus Labuschagne had the chance to take a similar running back catch in the India vs. Australia semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy. The difference wasn’t just the shot that Rohit Sharma attempted to play but also the outcome.

Travis Head vs. Marnus Labuschagne

The Indian captain looked to drive a full ball from Ben Dwarshuis on the up. But he couldn’t time the ball as well. It took the toe and went high. Labuschagne, who was stationed at mid-off, went running at full speed towards the ball. He got his hands on it but couldn’t hold on.

One mustn’t forget that Rohit Sharma’s wicket changed the entire momentum of the ODI World Cup Final. Australia got on top after that and remained on top throughout. Although India is chasing the target here, still the wicket of the Indian captain might have changed things quite a bit.

Rohit Sharma dropped twice by Australia

It wasn’t the first chance that Australia gave Rohit Sharma. In the second over of the second innings, 21-year-old Cooper Connolly had dropped the opener at point. The veteran batter was batting on just 12 at the time. How much will this hurt Australia? We’ll only know later.
