He was the first one to put his hand up: Rohit on Kishan
As mentioned above, Kishan stroked a fifty in the second innings to help India achieve quick runs. The left-handed batter stroked four fours and two maximums to get to the landmark. Earlier in the first innings, he scored 25 runs which included four boundaries. “You need guys like Ishan. We wanted quick runs, we promoted him, he wasn’t afraid. He was the first one to put his hand up,” Rohit said on Kishan during the post-match presentation.
“In Test matches, you need guys who stabilise the innings like what Virat did, he played superbly. You need the mixture of everything. We have depth, we have got variety. We are in the right place. It’s about getting the job done,” he added.
With Rishabh Pant missing out from action, several experts and fans believe that Kishan is the right choice as a wicketkeeper-batter especially in the longest format for India. Kishan’s name also came up during the final match of WTC 2021-23 to make debut against Australia. However, the Indian camp decided to go with KS Bharath which did not had much fruitful results.
Kishan’s name is also in the ODI squad, but it looks like Sanju Samson will be given preference over him at least for the first fixture to be played on July 27 at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, The Men in Blue will want to continue their winning run leading to the Asia Cup and World Cup at home.
