Team India has jet off to Kolkata today for their next ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match. Rohit Sharma & Co will next play against South Africa (IND vs SA) at the iconic Eden Gardens. The match against Proteas is set to be held on November 5, Sunday, which co-incidentally falls on the birthday of Virat Kohli.
On Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India cruised into the semi-finals of World Cup 2023.
At the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, India’s incredible performance versus Sri Lanka became one for the statisticians, as records tumbled amid the hosts’ crushing with both bat and ball.
Rohit Sharma & Co scored 357/8 and then ripped through Sri Lanka for just 55 runs to win by 302 runs, the largest margin of victory by runs ever recorded by the hosts in an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
It is also the second-largest margin of any side in the tournament’s history, and it is seven runs short of the record of 309 runs set a week ago by Australia versus the Netherlands.
A greater margin of victory by runs has only occurred three times in Men’s ODI history: Zimbabwe’s 304-run victory over the USA in June of this year, Australia’s 309-run victory over the Netherlands earlier in the tournament, and India’s historic 317-run thumping of Sri Lanka in January 2023.
Thus, the four largest margins of victory in Men’s ODIs have all occurred in 2023.
Rohit Sharma and Co’s next assignment – IND vs SA
The India vs South Africa (IND vs SA) will be a top of the table clash in WC which could very well decide who will sit atop of the points table. Men in Blue after registering 7 wins on trot will face raging Proteas who have just suffered one loss which was an unexpected upset vs Netherlands in Dharamshala.
Rohit Sharma & Co will be up for the challenge at India’s oldest stadium.
