“Rohit Sharma bhagenge run 20 km roz”- Yograj Singh’s blueprint to transform Team India if made coach

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, who has always been in the news for making hard-hitting statements, is once again in the headlines. This time, he is sharing his coaching vision if made India's coach.

Rohit Sharma, who is currently India’s 50-over captain and also leading the red-ball team, can rightfully be called a legendary captain. And why not? He has secured two ICC trophies within just 10 months—first, leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup, and more recently, adding the Champions Trophy 2025 to his achievements.

However, at 37, Rohit Sharma is in the twilight of his career, and not many are openly backing him. But former Indian cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, believes there is still plenty of cricket left in him. Not just Rohit, but also the ‘run machine’ Virat Kohli remains in his thoughts.

Yograj, known for his bold statements, has once again grabbed attention by revealing what he would do if he were appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. According to him, he has a strong blueprint in mind—from making big players compete in the Ranji Trophy to ensuring Rohit Sharma runs 20 km daily.

See what Yograj Singh said in an interview with former Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab player Taruwar Kohli.

Backs Rohit, Kohli with a bold coaching philosophy!

“If you make me the coach of the Indian team, I will use these same players to transform it into a side that will be unbeatable for ages. Who will bring out their capabilities? You are always ready to throw them out of the team—drop Rohit Sharma or drop Kohli—but why? They are going through a bad phase, and I want to tell my players that I am with them. I’ll tell them, ‘Let’s play Ranji Trophy,’ or ‘Rohit will run 20 km daily.’ I will tell them I love them. Nobody does that. These players are diamonds—you don’t throw them out. I will be like their father. I have never differentiated between Yuvraj and the others, not even Dhoni. But what is wrong is wrong,” Yograj Singh said on Taruwar Kohli’s podcast.

Yograj Singh on Arjun Tendulkar

In the podcast, he also spoke about Mumbai Indians all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar. Yograj claimed that Arjun’s natural talent was being overlooked due to his emphasis on bowling, asserting that his real strength lay in batting. To support his view, he shared an incident where Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh had encouraged him to mentor Arjun during the Goa team’s visit.

Arjun trained with Yograj for 10-12 days, allowing the former cricketer to closely assess his game. Yograj was highly impressed with Arjun’s batting abilities and questioned why he was primarily being utilised as a bowler. He strongly believed that Arjun’s true potential lay in batting and felt that, if nurtured as a batting all-rounder, he could thrive in the sport.
