Rohit Sharma backs Shubman Gill to fire in “challenging” IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test, gives “clear message”

India skipper Rohit Sharma threw his weight behind Shubman Gill to start scoring runs in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test

India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma backed Shubman Gill to start firing all cylinders in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test. The young batter has failed to convert his starts into good knocks and has been rather out of form while batting at number three. The Hitman stated that Gill was one of the young prospects who knew very well how to score runs.

“Shubman Gill knows how to score runs”

Speaking at a press conference ahead of IND vs AUS 4th Test in Melbourne, Rohit stated that he did not want to “complicate” things with Gill, adding that he was a batter who has been playing really well. The Indian skipper said that he wouldn’t look in too much on his performances Adelaide and Brisbane. Further, he backed Gill to start scoring runs and noted that he had made his way into the team by scoring truckload of runs.

Both innings in Adelaide he looked pretty good, just didn’t go on to score a big one. I think he got 25-30 in both innings. I’m not going to look too much into Brisbane, got out second or third ball. You can’t look too much into it. But Gill has been one of our young prospects, who is coming up and playing really, really well. These tours can be challenging . It is the same thing, when some of these travel to India, it is hard for them as well,” Rohit Sharma said.

After missing the opening Test in Perth, Gill returned to the side for the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide. He managed to score 31 and 28 in two innings, failing on both occasions to convert his start into a big score. In Brisbane, he only managed to score 1 run before he was sent packing quickly.

He (Gill) is quality, we all know that. It is about giving clear message — like Jaiswal we don’t want to complicate too many things with him. He has scored many-many runs before coming into the Indian team, so he knows how to score runs,” Rohit Sharma added.
