One of the biggest news of the day is the chance of inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. But as per latest reports, the two star batters are exempted from playing domestic cricket. It is believed that the two senior players will decide whether to participate in the tournament or not. Currently, the main focus of the BCCI Selection Committee is not to overwork the players.
The Selection Committee expects the national team players to take part in the tournament. This will serve as a preparatory game for the players before they play in the IND vs BAN Test series. Along with Ro-Ko duo, Jasprit Bumrah is also exempted from playing in the tournament.
Will Ro-Ko play in Duleep Trophy?
Gautam Gambhir has previously mentioned that there is no provision of workload management for the batters. But that won’t be the case with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The two senior most players in the team have their own freewill to decide whether to play in the domestic tournament or not.
While the duo enters the twilight of their career, it is of paramount importance that these two ace players are not overworked. “It’s up to them whether or not to play,” a source told Cricbuzz.
The two seniors haven’t played domestic cricket over the years. While Rohit last played in 2021, Kohli’s last domestic outing came way back in 2015. As they enjoy their break, it is understood that they will return to India before the IND vs BAN Test series.
A Team India camp is placed to be setup in Chennai before the commencement of the first Test match in Chennai on 19th September.
