Riyan Parag has been appointed as Rajasthan Royals’ captain for their first three matches of IPL 2025. The decision has received backlash on social media, with Parag being accused of nepotism.
Fans contended that Yashasvi Jaiswal was a more worthy candidate for the role. The decision followed regular captain Sanju Samson’s announcement that he would participate in the three matches only as a batter.
Fans thinks Jaiswal is more deserving
Social media thinks that Jaiswal should have given the role of captain as his consistent performances for the team.
“Why isn’t Yashasvi Jaiswal captaining RR if Sanju Samson is set to play as a pure batter? And Riyan Parag Hot as a captaincy option — really? Also, how did NCA clear Sanju when he’s reportedly unfit? Questions need answers,” fan wrote on his X handle.
Samson will not captain in starting three games
Although Samson has been cleared to bat, reports suggest that the medical and sports science teams at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru have advised additional rest for his fingers before resuming wicketkeeping duties.
Riyan Parag was Rajasthan’s top scorer in IPL 2024, amassing 573 runs in 16 matches with an impressive average of 52. In contrast, Jaiswal scored 435 runs from the same number of matches, averaging 31.
