Former CSK star Suresh Raina claimed that Rishabh Pant could be sharing the dressing room with MS Dhoni in IPL 2025

Former Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina has fueled speculations of CSK going for Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025 auction. The southpaw claimed that ex-CSK skipper MS Dhoni and Pant met in Delhi ahead the retention deadline and that he was also present during the interaction. Raina claimed that Rishabh Pant “would soon be wearing a yellow jersey”. The Delhi Capitals skipper has not been retained by the franchise and will go under the hammer in the auction.

Earlier, reports had claimed that CSK were interested to go big for Rishabh Pant at the IPL 2025 auction. The keeper-batter could be a valuable addition to the team’s line-up and could potentially become MS Dhoni’s replacement as keeper when the legend hangs up his boots. Surprisingly, Pant was not retained by DC despite being a part of the side since his IPL debut.

I met MS Dhoni in Delhi, Pant was also there. I think something big is to happen. Someone will be wearing a yellow jersey soon,” Suresh Raina said on JioCinema.

Although DC are keen to rope in Rishabh Pant once again by using the Right To Match (RTM) card at the auction, CSK are likely to get into a bidding war to procure the services of of the keeper-batter. Should CSK get the southpaw, then he could also turn out to be a frontrunner to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain. Leading in 43 matches, Pant has won 23, and lost 19. On the other hand, Gaikwad, in his only season as the CSK skipper, he has lost 7 and won 7. 

MS Dhoni has been retained by CSK as an uncapped player for Rs 4 cr ahead of IPL 2025 auction. The former skipper had kept the franchise in the dark over his future in the IPL until days before the deadline. However, he confirmed that he intended to play for a few more years as long as his body permits.
