Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant could might as well be looking to be a part of a new franchise by IPL 2025. The Delhi Capitals, who just sacked their head coach Ricky Ponting, are reportedly contemplating on finding a replacement for Pant. After being on the sidelines for almost a year following a horrific car crash, Pant made his comeback in IPL 2024, leading DC in what was an awful campaign.
Rishabh Pant to leave DC?
As per a Dainik Jagaran report, the DC management isn’t too happy with Pant’s performance for the franchise and is yet to take a decision on retaining him for IPL 2025.
While the report also states that the team is in favour of trading the southpaw, it is understood that Sourav Ganguly insists that the franchise sticks with Pant as the skipper. Additionally, it claims that Pant could go on to join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Pant, who was named DC’s skipper in 2021, has failed to take the team forward in the past editions of IPL. The Capitals managed to win only seven out of their 14 games in IPL 2024, leading the Rishabh Pant-led side to be eliminated in the league stage of the tournament.
Earlier last week, Ricky Ponting was removed as the side’s head coach, with Ganguly signalling that the Aussie failed to take the team ahead in 7 years. Reports added that the team is looking for a Gautam Gambhir-like person as Ponting’s replacement, someone who will be aggressive in approach.
