Who will keep wickets for India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup? This is the most pertinent question of the hour. Former BCCI Selection Committee chairman MSK Prasad has claimed that Rishabh Pant’s inclusion as automatic keeper is a bit premature. On the other hand, he has thrown caution to the wind saying KL Rahul hasn’t kept wickets much owing to his injuries.
There are quite a few candidates to don the keeper’s role for Team India. Jitesh Sharma is the most probable candidate to make it to the big stage. KL Rahul is the designated keeper for India, but since he hasn’t kept much owing to his injuries, it can be assumed that he will be used as a batter.
Who will be India’s Keeper in T20 World Cup?
Rishabh Pant made a comeback to cricket in IPL 2024 after his near fatal accident. He was a bit rusty with the bat in the opening games but then roared back to form with fifties. Pant has also been quite good behind the stumps. But the former BCCI Chief Selection Committee Chairman believes, taking a call on Pant at this moment is a bit premature.
“It will be a bit premature to talk whether Pant will be an automatic choice as wicketkeeper batter. The key will be how he lasts the whole tournament especially the kind of accident he suffered. I think Pant playing in the IPL itself is the biggest news. Hats off to him. But he is still work in progress is what I feel. Post these six weeks I think we can be a better position to say whether he is fit to make it to the T20 World Cup squad,” MSK Prasad told RevSportz.

KL Rahul or Jitesh Sharma? Tough Choice
“It all depends upon what kind of a batting role the selectors and team management are expecting from the wicketkeeper. If you are expecting a finisher then you have a Jitesh Sharma. Someone like a KL Rahul is a class act but unfortunately, he has not kept wickets recently because of his injuries. Once he starts getting runs, the rest of the world will take notice. If he (KL Rahul) is in form then I feel he should be one of the two wicketkeepers in the side. Then you also have Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan as well,” Prasad concluded.
