“Let’s make it clear that Pant never had multiple surgeries as was speculated. There was much anxiety over another surgery. He was monitored every fortnight. Fortunately, his progress has been better than expected. This is a big boost for him. It could mean his comeback can happen a lot earlier than what was first expected,” a BCCI source told TOI.

Rishabh Pant was spotted at the Mumbai airport last week. While the reason for his visit is unclear, it is believed that Pant was in the city for consultation regarding his recovery. The 25-year-old had major surgery on his MCL (Media Collateral Ligament) and also damaged his ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament). Despite the surgery, another minor surgery was considered weeks after the initial operation. To Pant’s fortune, the rest of the ligaments are naturally healing well and that option has been ruled out.
As per TOI, there were concerns around Pant’s posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and surgery was earlier considered. That option was ruled out last week, potentially when the Delhi Capitals skipper landed in Mumbai. He has since returned to the NCA where he will continue his rehabilitation.
The left-hander, who is recovering from multiple surgeries, walked fine on his own but still has a brace on his knee. Pant is currently ruled out of 2023, and will miss the World Test Championship Final. The left-hander is likely to be ruled out of all action in 2023, including the Asia Cup and the World Cup. However, there are positive signs with his recovery, with the Delhi Capitals skipper making a quicker recovery to full fitness.
