It hasn’t been a perfect start for Rishabh Pant at his new franchise, and the Lucknow Super Giants skipper admits his team needs to hit the ground running ahead of the game against the Mumbai Indians. Pant has mustered only 17 runs in 3 games as LSG have picked up a solitary win so far in the tournament.
Poor Form for Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025
Speaking ahead of the LSG vs MI game on Friday, Pant acknowledged his poor batting form. LSG have relied on Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh for runs, and the keeper-skipper wants his team ‘come off’ starting against the Mumbai Indians in Lucknow.
“I think we are pretty confident as a batting unit. A very strong unit. Few of our players haven’t come off including me. The general discussion is to go out there and express yourself. We haven’t talked about a target we want to achieve. Just play the ball and watch the ball and react. I think we are pretty confident,” said Pant.
When addressing his returns, Pant backed his ability, saying it was a matter of getting set in the middle. “I think we are pretty confident. The way I have set up myself. Once we get a start, I will capitalize,” Pant shot a warning.
‘His best is yet to come’: Sanjiv Goenka backs Skipper
LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has thrown his weight behind his under-fire skipper. Despite Pant’s indifferent form, Goenka relayed that he had no doubts on Rishabh’s ability to lead the side and get the team firing in IPL 2025. “I’ve said this before, and I have no hesitation in saying it again: I believe he’s a great leader. His best leadership is yet to come. So, 27 is the number we got him at. If it had meant 28, that would have been the number, Goenka was quoted saying at a recent interaction.”
