After being out of action for one and a half years, it looks like Rishabh Pant will make his Indian cricket team return at the T20 World Cup 2024. Concerns over the wicketkeeper’s fitness were raised when it was revealed that he’d be making his comeback in the IPL 2024 season.
Rishabh Pant’s spot sealed
Following his success as a batter and wicketkeeper in the past couple of weeks, the BCCI has decided to bring the dynamic southpaw back into the mix. While talking with PTI, an anonymous BCCI source revealed that ‘there would not be any experimentation or left-field selections.’
Tried and tested players—those who have already played for the Indian cricket team—will be selected for the T20 World Cup 2024. The source also indicated that Pant’s spot in the XI is fixed. However, for the second spot, we might see a battle between Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan.

Samson for the T20 World Cup 2024?
Sanju Samson, who’s been unlucky in the past, might find himself on the squad this time around. Unlike Rahul and Kishan, Samson bats in the middle order, while Jitesh is a finisher. With plenty of openers already in the mix, it is unlikely that Kishan or Rahul will be given a nod ahead of Samson.
Jitesh has been out of form, and if he doesn’t come good by May 1, the cut-off date for the T20 World Cup 2024 provisional squad announcement, he might very well be out of the reckoning.
