Rishabh Pant ended his run of poor scores with his first half-century for Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. Put into bat by his idol MS Dhoni, Rishabh got his first sizeable score of the season on a two-paced wicket at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The 27-year-old started aggressively but fell behind the rate with caution on his way to his second slowest IPL fifty.
Rishabh Pant’s maiden fifty for LSG
Walking in to bat at the fall of Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant began in typical fashion, making use of the field restrictions in play. The left-hander carted Jamie Overton for a reverse ramp over third man for a six, before a late cut to pick off a boundary of Jadeja. He raced to 21 off 13 balls, offering a counter-attacking solution to LSG’s struggles after losing a couple of wickets early. He eventually reached his milestone in 42 deliveries, keeping Lucknow in the hunt for a par score. It was his first 50 score in 19 T20 innings, a run stretching back to 2024.
Rishabh gets 50, but is it enough?
On a two-paced wicket, Rishabh Pant did well to read the conditions and hold the innings together after the fall of early wickets. However, having gotten off to a fast start, the LSG skipper went into a shell, struggling to rotate strike and find the boundary at regular intervals. He struggled especially against spin, with Noor Ahmad bowling 6 straight dots to him. From the time of Marsh’s dismissal to him getting his half-century, Pant played 25 balls for 26 runs, with two consecutive sixes off Pathirana boosting that strike rate.
Runs | Strike-rate |
vs Pace – 45 (26) | 173.07 |
vs Spin – 18 (23) | 78.26 |
It is his second slowest fifty in IPL so far, with only a 46-ball effort against RCB in 2021 being his slowest. The left-hander, however, did catch up later in the innings, taking on Khaleel Ahmed for another maximum. He eventually finished with 63 off 49 balls, with 4 boundaries and 4 sixes.
