Once a great cricketing colossus, West Indies have now failed to qualify for successive white-ball World Cups. Last year they bowed out from the T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Having managed to qualify for the Super Six, their chances looked bleak after successive losses against Zimbabwe and Netherlands. The game against Scotland on Saturday was their must-win encounter.
The Shai Hope led side however fared poorly with the bat as they were bundled out after scoring just 181. Scotland comfortably chased down the total with seven wickets to spare in 43.3 overs to register their first-ever win against the Men from the Carribean.
Some fans were however heartbroken to see the current state of West Indies cricket. They posted tweets reminiscing the time when the Men from the Carribean were dominating the World stage.
West Indies were the champions of the first two editions of the World Cup in 1975 and 1979. In the 48 years of tournament history, this is the first time that West Indies won’t feature among the top 10 teams in limited overs cricket.
