Rinku Singh’s back-to-back ducks for India A hampers southpaw’s chance for maiden Test call-up

Rinku Singh’s back-to-back ducks for India A hampers southpaw’s chance for maiden Test call-up

It does not seem like Rinku Singh will even be discussed when the Indian selectors sit down to select India's team for the IND vs ENG 3rd, 4th and 5th Test.

Is Rinku Singh losing his chance to get his maiden Test squad call-up? After being immaculate since making his debut in the T20I and ODI format for India, Rinku Singh has faltered when it came to the Red Ball format. The southpaw got a call-up to the India A side against the England Lions due to his blistering form. However, he has failed to make a mark.

The batter had scored a duck in the previous match against England Lions. He followed it up with another duck on Friday against the same opponents. The twin failure is sure to hamper his chances of getting selected in the India’s Red Ball squad.

Rinku has been going from strength to strength since being selected in the Indian team. The southpaw received his call-up to the India’s T20 side after IPL heroics. He consolidated his position in the T20 side with some good knocks in death overs. He received his ODI call up soon after. His good form in ODIs made it seem like a matter of time before he got his Test call-up as well. All he had to do was score for India A with the same consistency. However, cricket is an uncertain sport.

His back to back 0s against England Lions has now pushed his opportunity to get selected in the Indian Test team even further. It does not seem like Rinku Singh will even be discussed when the Indian selectors sit to select India’s team for the IND vs ENG 3rd, 4th and 5th Test. The best possible scenario for Rinku would be to go back to Ranji Trophy and hammer some runs to reappear in the reckoning for India’s Test team.
