Rinku Singh to lead UP in Vijay Hazare Trophy, IPL biggies make cut to squad

Rinku Singh was excellent in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and was rewarded with captaincy for Vijay Hazare Trophy.

India batsman Rinku Singh will lead UP in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, that is scheduled to begin in Andhra Pradesh from December 21. The senior selection committee named a 19-member squad, naming a new skipper for the 50-over format. While Aryan Juyal was the skipper in the Ranji Trophy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar-led the side in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with Rinku Singh getting the reigns of the team now.

Rinku Singh to Lead in Vijay Hazare

The highlight of the UP squad was — their IPL-packed team that also has the likes of Nitish Rana, Mohsin Khan, and Shivam Mavi. Meanwhile, Rinku had an excellent SMAT, where he went on to score 277 runs in only 9 matches, at an average of 69 and a strike rate of 152.

As far as his List A record is concerned, in 57 matches he has scored 1899 runs at an average of 48 and a strike-rate of 94. Surprisingly, he has only one ton to his name, and 17 fifties to go with it. On the other hand, a lot of focus will be on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and how he bowls. In the recently concluded SMAT, in the nine matches he played, he picked up 11 wickets. Most importantly, his economy rate stood at 6.03 only.

IN SMAT, UP managed to reach the quarter-finals, but were defeated by Delhi in the last 8 match. After the latter scored 193/3 in 20 overs, UP could only score 174.
