‘Rinku Singh for me’: Ex-India cricketer backs youngster for T20 World Cup 2024

Ahead of T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku Singh has shown glimpses of his abilities as a finisher for India in the ongoing IND vs AUS T20I series

A former Indian cricketer backed Rinku Singh to be India’s new finisher, even ahead of Hardik Pandya amid the IND vs AUS T20I series. Rinku Singh has been a star with the bat, with his accelerating finishes at the death overs that takes the breath out of the opposition. With the series against Australia being the beginning of India’s roadmap to the T20 World Cup 2024, each of Rinku Singh’s innings will prove to be crucial in order for the batter to cement his place in the playing XI.

Rinku Singh can be ‘next finisher for India’

As the 5th T20I between India and Australia was underway at Bengaluru, Nayar backed Rinku to be India’s next finisher. He opined that the star had gotten ahead of Hardik Pandya and others, adding that he had performed to the role’s expectations ‘exceedingly well’.

“I just feel he has put his hand up saying that ‘I can be the finisher for India.’ Yes. there’s a Hardik Pandya. But he is a slightly different player now. Takes his time and then play the big shots. So, I Think at the finisher’s role, Rinku Singh has slightly pipped ahead of them and said ‘yes, I am the batter who can bat anywhere, but I am playing that finisher’s role exceedingly well. So it’s Rinku Singh for me,” said Abhishek Nayar.

Rinku gets another veteran’s backing for finisher’s role

Rinku Singh has been named as a ‘contender’ for the spot of the finisher in India’s T20 World Cup team by former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra. However, Nehra believes that the batsman will face stiff competition from his teammates in the tournament.

While there is some time to go for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Rinku Singh’s consistency with the bat lower down the order definitely makes him one of the top contenders for that finisher’s spot in India’s batting line-up.
