Rinku Singh’s whole family was ready to celebrate. He was about to make the cut for his first-ever World Cup for India. A dream that had taken 26 years to cultivate was about to come true, but it wasn’t to be. Rinku, one of India’s cricket team’s best performers since his debut in August last year, was expected to be on the list.
Rinku Singh’s father still ‘happy’
He instead found himself on the reserve list. The competition was so immense that India’s best finisher failed to find a spot in the 15-man squad. Naturally, Rinku Singh was hurt. Heartbroken, he called his mother and revealed that, although he’ll be flying across the Atlantic, he won’t be in the main squad.
His father, Khanchandra Singh, spoke with News24 and revealed that they bought sweets and crackers to celebrate. But then they got Rinku’s call, and he said that he hadn’t been included in the 15 but would be traveling with the team as a reserve.
“We had big hopes; we bought sweets and crackers for celebrations as we thought Rinku would be in the playing XI, but we are still happy. Rinku called his mother and broke the news. He was heartbroken. He told her that my name isn’t in the main 15 but I’m still going to the World Cup,” Rinku Singh’s father said.
