Rinku Singh faces tough challenge for finisher’s spot in T20 World Cup: Ashish Nehra

While there is some time to go for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Rinku Singh’s consistency with the bat lower down the order definitely makes him one of the top contenders for that finisher’s spot

Rinku Singh has been named as a ‘contender’ for the spot of the finisher in India’s T20 World Cup team by former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra. However, Nehra believes that the batsman will face stiff competition from his teammates in the tournament.

Rinku has been on fire in the five-match T20I series against Australia, scoring 46 off 29 balls in the fourth T20I in Raipur, helping India win the match byb 20 runs to clinch the series against the Aussies.

While there is some time to go for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Rinku Singh’s consistency with the bat lower down the order definitely makes him one of the top contenders for that finisher’s spot in India’s batting line-up.

Rinku Singh’s spot has many challengers: Ashish Nehra

There is no doubt that Rinku Singh is a contender for inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad,” the former left-arm pacer told Jio Cinema. “But the World Cup is still far away and the spot he’s fighting for has many challengers.”

Nehra then went on to name a few challengers that can pose a threat to Rinku Singh’s place in the starting line-up.

“You can look at Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper-batter) and Tilak Varma. We’ll have to discuss the positions where Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will play,” Nehra said.

“So, we have to see how many spots are available in the 15-member squad. But one thing is sure, he (Rinku) has opened everyone’s eyes and put everyone under pressure. But there’s still a lot of time to go. The trip to South Africa is coming up followed up by the IPL,” Nehra added.
