Rinku Singh bags medal for fielder of India vs Sri Lanka series with ‘firefighter’ approach

Rinku Singh has bagged his second consecutive fielder of the series medal after his heroics on field in India vs Sri Lanka series

India cricket team’s Rinku Singh has been adjudged the fielder of the series in the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka. Rinku, who had already won the fielder of the series medal in the tour against Zimbabwe, continued to impress fielding coach T Dilip, leading him to bag a second consecutive medal. India completed a clinical 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka, with the last game going down the wire into the Super Over.

Rinku Singh gets best fielder medal once again

In his traditional dressing room pep talk before awarding the medal, fielding coach T Dilip once again stressed on the importance of taking catches and gave a shoutout to the side for their efforts on the field despite challenging conditions. He equated the job of a fielder to that of a firefighter, noting that they had to always be on top of their game.

The contenders for the best fielder medal included Ravi Bishnoi and Riyan Parag, who who have been impressive on the field. The medal was awarded to Rinku Singh by assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.

Earlier, the young star was presented the medal by stand-in coach VVS Laxman after India victoriously signed off the series with an emphatic win in the 5th T20I against Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka collapse in stunning fashion

Sri Lanka’s nightmare unfolded in the final T20I against India. Needing 30 off 30 with nine wickets in hand, victory seemed assured. However, a batting collapse and Suryakumar Yadav’s startling bowling forced a Super Over.

Even Rinku Singh, who bowled the fifth time in his T20 career, got two wickets. In a dramatic twist, India clinched the match and series with a boundary off the first ball of the Super Over. It was a heart-wrenching defeat for Sri Lanka, who were whitewashed at home.
